Your Options for Buying Certified Redwood

old-tree.jpgThere are many certifications out there that strive to protect the forests of the world. The two main certifications that Wine Cellar Innovations offers are Sustainable Forest Initiative (SFI) and Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).

Wine Cellar Innovations offers SFI (Sustainable Forestry Initiative) certified Premium and Clear All Heart Redwood for all our wine cellar and wine racking products as the standard wood. SFI Certification provides consumers with assurance that the redwood products they purchase from Wine Cellar Innovations have been harvested in an environmentally sound manner. The goals of SFI include protecting forestlands through responsible harvesting of forests, reforestation, soil conservation, water and wildlife protection, and efficient use of forest products.

tree-in-hands.jpgWe also offer Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified redwood. Unlike SFI which is focused on North American forests, FSC certifies forests worldwide and is the only certification to have LEED status for building completely green homes.  FSC has a lower profile in the United States and makes it harder to acquire materials and therefore will have an additional cost.  If you are interested in this material please inform your design consultant and they can get you an estimate on the additional cost for this option.

The two certifications are similar but have their differences. We invite you to learn more about Sustainable Forestry Initiative and Forest Stewardship Council.
