The Wine Cellar Innovations brand was a product of the brilliant mind of founder and creator Jim Deckebach
. During his student days in France in 1974, he fell in love with the country's fine wines and foods began in 1974. This naturally developed into a more global appreciation of wine, cuisine, and fine dining as a whole. It was no surprise that when he returned to the US, he went on to manage a restaurant in Cincinnati and remodel homes on the side. He started Deckebach Construction & Remodeling Business in 1977 out of his garage, and built his first wine cellar as part of a remodeling job in 1984. Jim specialized in custom wine cellars along with his construction business until 1989. In 1989 Jim put an ad as a lark in a national publication called Les Ami du Vin. To his surprise he started getting calls from around the country looking for a new supplier of wine racks and his wine cellar business took off.
was a born innovator. He knows what the wine cellar construction industry needs and how to address them. His main points of focus even during the early days of his builder days were customer service and quality control. This is why he was able to develop both products and services that really responded to customers' wine storage needs. Apart from providing fully customized wine cellar design
and racking products, Jim also developed budget-friendly lines known as Wine Cellar Innovations' wine rack kits
. These consist of the Vintner, Designer, WineMaker, and Traditional Series. Under his creative leadership, the company also began to develop products that addressed the rising trend towards more contemporary wine cellar design. Presently, WCI offer the Modern Wine Cellar Series, the Acrylic Invisible Wine Racks, Glass Enclosed Wine Cellars, and Contemporary Cable Wine Racking System that can give any project that much coveted modern vibe.
The birth of the current WCI facility in Cincinnati was realized through Jim's determination, unwavering focus, and years of hard work. Jim
and his team moved to the 355,000 sq. ft. facility in Cincinnati and added a refrigeration department with test chambers to develop the best storage methods for aging wine. Soon enough, builders, remodelers and architects began looking to him to fulfill the highly specialized needs of building and designing wine cellars. Today, the company proudly employs over 150. They design, craft and install the world’s leading wine cellars for discerning clients the world over.
When he's not working on "that next big wine cellar project," Jim
also enjoys life's little but fulfilling pleasures. He loves visiting the Cincinnati Music Hall for the symphony and ballet with his lovely wife Rebecca. At home, he enjoys cooking, firing up the BBQ grill, and of course, popping a bottle or two of wine. He still never forgets his love for fine dining as well. On special occasions, he would take his wife out, or spend special time with family and friends at the Orchids at Palm Court
. Jim has managed to achieve a life-work balance while providing world-class wine cellar products and services to wine lovers like him all over the world.
