Pretty Is As Pretty Does With The Designer Series

November 20th, 2014

“Pretty is as pretty does,” they usually like to say. Oftentimes, the things that can both grab AND hold our attention aren’t the flashy ones. On the contrary, they’re the simple, clean-cut lines that reek of understated elegance. Let’s translate that in terms of wine racks.

It goes without saying that the primary purpose of a wine racking assembly is always to provide the proper storage for your wine bottles. That’s kind of like the default in the grand scheme of things (or in this case, wine cellar projects). But of course, it doesn’t mean that style has to be done away with. These days, racking arrangements are becoming more and more dramatic, thanks to products that allow for the creation of truly unique assemblies.

Still, there are several considerations that might hamper some design goals, such as space and budget. These shouldn’t be a reason for you not to have an eye-catching racking arrangement, though. Utilizing functional racks with simple yet flexible configurations will definitely take things to another level. Take for example when you work with our Designer Series wine racks kit like our client Peter:

Peter sent in for our 4-Column Individual with Display, a Rectangular Bin & Case storage, and a Curved Corner with Display in unstained All-Heart Redwood, all from the Designer Series. There’s a space reserved in the room in his home for a compact racking assembly for his small collection. Since our Designer racks are basically all “rack-and-stack” given their flexible configurations, it was just a matter of picking the right pieces and literally fitting them together. The result was a simple yet seamless set-up that hugged the walls and corners to a T.

“All in all I love it!  It was fun to use my nail gun for once which I never get to do.  It looks great and smells great and fits my space perfectly! The hardest part is probably figuring out how to organize the wine.”

DIY With The Designer Series: “Dang, That’s Fabulous!”

July 17th, 2014

Some client photos make us go “Really nice!” Some make us go “Oh, wow!” And there are those that make us go, “Dang, that’s fabulous!” Not by any coincidence, that’s exactly what we exclaimed when the client sent us shots of this most recent DIY wine rack creation our client Valerie has accomplished:

whisperkool wine coolingSo Valerie had a pretty spacious 8′ x 8′ wine room all geared up for their steadily growing collection. All the elements essential to achieving ideal wine storage conditions were put into play: insulation, vapor barrier, and a proper cooling system courtesy of our very own Whisperkool line. Now all that was needed was to put together a racking assembly that would provide maximum bottle storage AND a unique, aesthetic charm. Needless to say, the client was able to bring out such a result and it’s thanks to the help of WCI’s Designer Series wine racks kit.

Valerie here sent for the following choice pieces from our Designer Series: Individual Bottle Columns, Curved Corner Racks, Open Diamond Bins, and a Rectangular Bin Wood Case. In addition, accent pieces were also thrown in to give more drama to the arrangement: an Archway with Tabletop as well as a glass rack with tabletop, and a third tabletop. Notice that the Rectangular Bin Wood Case is actually under the two tabletops with the Open Diamond Bin under the one at the end. This makes for a more space-efficient set-up as well as effectively showcasing the variety of the racking in terms of bulk bottle storage options. Everything we see here is done in unstained All-Heart Redwood which works so well with the golden brown and pink palettes of the cellar.

Remember that at WCI, we also customize wine cellar doors from the wood choice down to the design and stain and finish options to carefully mesh with your cellar’s existing decor. All you need to do is check out this section of the website to see the plethora of customization choices available to you!

I had a contractor who did all the installation and I believe used the nail gun provided without issue. We are very happy with the final result! We would be very proud to have it posted on your website! The room was about 8′ x 8′ and the floor tiled and walls painted that were made with moisture resistant drywall. We also have it cooled to a constant 58 degrees with the Whisperkool chiller also purchased from you. The door was custom made by our contractor and the lighting in the arch is LED. The ceiling light is made of cork.”

It’s certainly a DIY wine cellar worth the spotlight on our blog because it sure made us go “Dang, it’s fabulous!” So did you guys feel the same way with this wine cellar as well? We’d love to hear what you think! Share a comment or two with us and tune in to next week’s Testimonial Thursday for more DIY inspirations. ^_^

Technical Tuesday Episode #129: Simple Yet Unforgettable Elegance With Unstained All-Heart Redwood

April 16th, 2013

“Elegance is not about being noticed, it’s about being remembered.”

~Habeeb Akande~

Hey there, Tech Tuesday fans! Here’s some really great food for thought to be chewing on as the week is getting started. Isn’t it that most of us year for truly elegant wine cellars? Well if that’s our goal, then this is a nice little tip we should keep in mind. Building an elegant wine cellar doesn’t mean it has to be ostentatious. Oftentimes, understated elegance is the key to an appealing an unforgettable creation. Let’s let today’s episode show us how:
What: Residential Wine Cellar
Project #: 222626
Wood: Platinum/Vintner/Designer/All-Heart Redwood
Maximum Capacity: 486
Where: Fishers, IN
Today’s project features a fairly simple racking configuration at first glance. Nonetheless, if you check it out carefully, you’ll come to see just how beautifully seamless the wine racking assembly is. This project is a perfect example of elegance being found in the simplest of designs. The focus is on the exemplary craftsmanship, the flawless symmetry, and the superb quality of the materials used.
There are actually three different racking options utilized in this wine cellar straight from the WCI store: the Platinum Series custom wine racks, and the Vintner and Designer wine rack kits. In particular, the design specialists put together standard individual bottle wine racks, a couple of wine displays for bulk storage, including boxes and bins, and a Quarter Round Shelf. A standard archway was also added, accentuated by custom LED lighting options.
Up close, you can see how neat and perfectly proportioned the racking system is. This is all thanks to the flexible configurations of the racks from the various series which can be easily mixed and matched to result in a seamless arrangement. Notice how the lighting elements have nicely highlighted the displays to create a bit of a sultry mood for the wine cellar. The right accessories can do it every time! By playing around with the wood choice, lighting, stain and finish options, decorative accents, and more, you can have so many different unique looks for your project.
Now in this case, the client opted for unstained wooden wine racks made from All-Heart Redwood. This is one of the reasons why the racking assembly may appear quite simple at the beginning. But as you take a closer and longer look, you’ll come to appreciate just how much beauty there is in such understated elegance. In other words, the impact the unstained wood creates is long-lasting.

Speaking of unstained All-Heart Redwood, one of the most distinctive features of this wood specie is its gorgeous reddish brown tones which takes on a deeper and more luxurious shade as the wood ages. And it’s not just the color! The Redwood specie is a highly popular choice for custom wine cellar projects because it has much resistance to rot, mildew, and insects. The wood is not hampered by time but in fact, this only serves to increase its durability. Check out this sample that was buried for 2,000 years but is still as good as any newly crafted Redwood product in your wine cellar.

“Elegance is not about being noticed, it’s about being remembered.” There’s certainly a load of truth in that and today’s feature is a fine example of simple yet unforgettable elegance. See you guys next Tuesday and don’t forget to tune in tomorrow for our How To Wednesday episode. *Cheers*
