Wine Cellar Roundup – Episode #87

May 25th, 2012

Happy Memorial Day weekend, folks! I hope you will be taking it easy and celebrating some of our wonderful veterans. It seems like it’s been a few years since flags would be planted in our lawn by helpful Realtors but be sure to get your own out and display them proudly! Then, it’s time to relax. What’s your wine of choice?

Here are some funny links of the week:

Now that it’s summer will you be trending toward light wines?

It’s not too late to leave that high powered job and head to Wine Country. Here is how one guy did it.

Okay, I’m leaving you with some amusing baby giggles of a little guy having a grand old time spraying water at his dogs with the garden hose!

Happy Spring to you! Hopefully you are either enjoying or about to enjoy Spring Break with all the crazy kids out there. If you have some time, definitely check out our amazing sale this week! 5% off of ANY order, 10% off of orders over $500, and 15% off of $1,000 and up!

If you are ever in Napa on spur of the moment, Girl with a Glass has the details on the Do Napa Overnight Kit. It sounds cute. More hotels should do this!

The WA Wine Report has a nice recap of the Taste Washington weekend. Sounds like a successful program for all Washington wineries involved!

Do wine writers write only for the one percent? Sometimes you might think so with those fabulously expensive bottles of wine but there are a lot of places that are for the affordable budget.

Now, if you have continued my obsession with the Hunger Games you might enjoy this Slate article about the ‘Hunger Names’. Love it!

Cheers!

Anything good this week? This is what I found!

Mmm, check out their Wines of Italy series. I can never resist information about Italy.

16 reasons not to hate on Chardonnay. I liked this article because I never drink Chardonnay! I need to try it more often.

What the wine drinkers can learn from Leonardo Da Vinci. I like that curiosity if the first thing! You definitely need that to be a wine taster/drinker.

Happy Hunger Games! Did you see it? I did and it was wonderful. Even better is a hysterical ‘Dayjob Hunger Games‘ update on Twitter. You can read it via Storify but my favorite is Schmooze and Booze, the twin tributes from Development. Oh, the things people come up with.

Going for the ‘aww’ moments… is there anything sweeter (or cry worthy?) than seeing young children see a  parent arrive back home after serving our country? Well, this one is a dog realizing his owner is home. Adorable!

Cheers!

I knew the Artist would win last week at the Oscars. I still have to go back and see a few of the other nominated movies but I thought the Artist was very sweet and very well done. On to some interesting links!

Wine Spectator has an interesting article on improving wine shipping by tracking temperature and helping producers to learn their customers.

Liz Willette gave some great tips on how to become a sommelier. It takes a lot of studying!

Get art and wine involved by learning a little more about Leonardo Da Vinci.

The benefits of wine continue to baffle me. Apparently there is a study going around about how moderate wine intake helps Type-2 Diabetes.

Edible wine bottles? I don’t know about that one! What do you think?

Happy Friday 🙂
