Technical Tuesday Episode #557: Scandinavian Inspired Wine Room

January 18th, 2022

Thanks to the pandemic, we’ve seen a dramatic rise in home and/or living space tours on Youtube. And if there’s one decorating style we’ve seen so much of, it’s certainly the Scandinavian theme. The style is quite distinct as it focuses heavily on simplicity, minimalism, and functionality. The Nordic countries are, of course, responsible for this design movement.  WCI is responsible for bringing it to your wine cellars, like we did with this Tech Tuesday:

Project # 327539
Wood: Custom / Premium Redwood
Bottle Capacity: 719
Where: Paoli, PA
Stain: Unstained

So let’s go ahead and take a look at this project. In true Scandinavian fashion, the racking arrangement places emphasis on functionality and clean lines. The clients decided on custom wine racks all around. This allowed our team to fully utilize the available space. Not only that, the wine cellar looks so roomy. Notice how there is a great variety in racking styles. There is also a tasting center, along with additional counterops. But did you know that this project is actually on the small side? That’s right! The cellar can hold only a little over 700 bottles, though it looks much bigger. This is the magic of a minimalist aesthetic.

The Scandinavian inspiration extends to the wood and stain options chosen for this project. Simplicity and neutral palettes are key in achieving this. That’s why our team went with unstained Premium Redwood for the wine racks. Premium Redwood boasts of natural colors ranging from the pinkish browns to the reddish golds. The light hues are very attractive and showcase the gorgeous grain patterns of the wood. Also, it’s a clear grade of wood, pretty much like All-Heart Redwood. Keeping the racks unstained allows the natural beauty of Premium Redwood to really shine. It also elevates the simplicity feature.

To tie everything together, our design team incorporated hardwood flooring and lightly painted walls. They also threw in some subdued lighting accessories. The end result is a wine cellar that exudes durability, functionality, simplicity, and beauty. It is a reflection a true Scandinavian principles. *Cheers*
