Egdy Knotty Alder wine racksThis space in clients’ home might seem a bit awkward at first glance. But the potential was there and our design team made sure to bring that out. The decision to go with custom wine racks was certainly on point. You can see from the photos how the racks were really fitted to the compact area. The transition is seamless and the racking assembly sports a clean, professional look. Plus, we love the use of black metal trim on the glass panels. It gives the wine cellar an edgy, modern vibe:

Dark Walnut stain lends an edgy lookNow let’s talk about the wood choice for this project. Knotty Alder belongs to the Select Hardwoods category in WCI’s catalogue. That means it’s not one of our “stock” wood options. Thus, the pricing is done to order and may be subject to market fluctuation. Nonetheless, it is worth the cost. One of the major reasons why Knotty Alder is sought after is because of its natural colors. Unstained, the wood is composed of light brown shades. However, you will also see some variations, from pale yellows to reddish-brown. The wood often features a variety of different-sized knots like Rustic Pine, though not as uniform. Plus, there are parts that have no knots at all. Knotty Alder absorbs stains and finishes extremely well. It’s quite easy to get the look that you want for the wood with the right stain/finish combo.

Loving the edgy look on Knotty Alder racksOur clients chose Dark Walnut stain for their racking units. This worked perfectly against the natural soft hues of Knotty Alder. Dark Walnut is designed to deepen almost all shades of wood. But the stain is even more amplified in lighter colored woods. You can also see how the racks and flooring complement each other. This wine cellar is everything the clients wanted and more! *Cheers*
