All The Reasons To Love All-Heart Redwood

February 22nd, 2016

All-Heart Redwood has consistently ranked as one of the most, if not the most, popular wood choice for wine cellar projects. But it didn’t get keep that top spot for flimsy reasons. All-Heart Redwood is a class all on its own and we’re here to give you guys the breakdown of all the reasons to love this wood specie.

An All-Heart Redwood wine cellar

We’re quite lucky to have received these shots of a recently completed project in Dekalb, GA which sports All-Heart Redwood wine racks from floor to ceiling. It’s a pretty spacious wine room with a bottle capacity of 1075 bottles, decked out with custom racking units from our Platinum Series. But what we’re going to focus on today will be the wood choice – unstained All-Heart Redwood. Below is a great close-up shot of the racks, showcasing the natural, untouched hues of the wood. Essentially, All-Heart Redwood comes in soft, reddish brown tones. When freshly milled, it ranges in color from pink to red to dark brown with reddish overlay. As it ages natural unstained Clear All-Heart Redwood (like the one you see being used in these wine racks) takes on increasing darker depth of beautiful color as it oxidizes. It’s a lot like wine in this aspect – aging gracefully and becoming more elegant as the years pass by.

But aesthetics aside, the even bigger reasons to love All-Heart Redwood rest on the wood’s impressive properties. There is no other North American wood that has as much resistance to rot, mildew and insects as this specie. Basically, as the tree grows, the heart takes on minerals which give it those reddish brown tones and stronger resistance to decay. In addition, the wood showcases impressive resistance to shrinking, warping, apart from its durability. This greatly contributes to the graceful aging process of the wood. As the years fly by, your wine racks will become even more eye-catching as the colors deepen and and become more luxurious. Case in point is this sample wood that was buried for 2,000 years and is as good today as the Clear All Heart Redwood used to build our wine cellars.

WCI All-Heart Redwood is SFI-Certified!

Last but certainly not the least, we cannot name any other wood specie that’s as environmentally friendly as All-Heart Redwood. Here at WCI, all of our Redwood is purchased under the guidelines of SFI, or the Sustainable Forestry Initiative.  What is this all about? The SFI Certification provides customers with assurance that the Redwood purchased from us have been harvested in an environmentally sound manner. That means you’re doing Mother Nature a huge favor on top of everything else! ^_^
