February 3rd, 2016

A wine cellar that can give you that feel of being right in the heart of wine country is definitely a goal worth working for. But if you’re worried that it’s going to cost you a small fortune in terms of outfitting your wine cellar with the most appropriate accents, we’re here to wipe those budget blues away. This week’s wine cellar inspirations is none other than WCI’s Vintage Wine Barrel Flooring – the custom hand-finished product that will give your cellar that authentic vintage charm you seek.

Vintage Wine Barrel Flooring and Cooperage

Cooperage Vintage Wine Barrel Flooring – learn more about it!

So what exactly is this “vintage wine barrel flooring” we’re pitching? It’s actually “cooperage vintage wine barrel flooring.” Cooperage is the outside portion of a wine barrelhead. It bears the distinct markings of each barrel, thereby identifying the original contents. Our Cooperage flooring must be purchased in increments of  12 square feet with two (2) “Cooperage” stamps per every three (3) feet.

Going into further detail,  the flooring is made out 5/8″ thick engineered planks. This thickness includes an integrated plywood platform designed to improve dimensional stability and ease of installation. All the boards come pre-finished and sealed with a UV water base sealant. Note that each piece is very unique, with no two planks exactly alike. WCI is quite proud to reveal that each reclaimed wood component in this line is carefully inspected for quality, color, and structural integrity.

Now apart from the “Cooperage,” this custom flooring also features “Infusion”on material. Infusion basically refers to the inside pieces of the wine barrel material. So what you have are these aged barrels sporting the unique patina of the wine infused permanently into the wood. In the case of our tabletops which also carry the Vintage Wine Barrel option, they become dressed with a bold and beautiful burgundy color owing to the fact they have been stained by wine. It should be kept in mind, nonetheless, that these “infusion” pieces do not have the “cooperage” stamps on them.

So what about the installation aspect of the flooring? We recommend a sub-floor or a raised foundation as the best options. Essentially, the flooring may be glued, nailed, or floated over sub-floor surfaces. But if it is over concrete, you will need to install a vapor barrier and glue the flooring to the vapor barrier. We recommend Bostik’s Best Adhesive in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. Chat with our design consultants and we can provide more detailed guidelines on the installation process.

All in all, the Vintage Wine Barrel flooring will surely bring about distinctive and timeless charm to your wine cellar. And take note – it’s eco-friendly, too! ^_^
