Premium Redwood Wine Cellar

There’s really no doubt about it. Premium Redwood beautifully adds texture and interest to a wine cellar. These photos of our recent wine cellar installation prove that Redwood is truly a fine choice for a wine room. Individual Wine Racking

The Gold Series boasts of Premium Redwood wine racks that come single or double deep with spacing for half bottles, wine, champagne, magnums and larger sizes. Wine rack styles – individual storage racks, 15 degree display racks, solid open diamond bins and wood case wine storage come together in this wine cellar beautifully, maximizing space and storage capabilities. Stocking these racks with precious wine bottles will surely be a delight!

Large Archway

It’s not noticeable here, but this wine cellar comes with a faux archway and a wine glass rack. In case you’re wondering, a faux wine cellar archway is essentially a front facing faceplate trim that be customized with various etchings if you desire! A clever addition, if you ask us. As for the glass rack, well we’d love to see those dainty wine glasses hanging soon, adding an element of elegance to this wine cellar.

Corner Wine Racks

As you can see, the bare beauty of Premium Redwood is one of the reasons why it’s a top wood choice for wine cellars. The wood’s color variations — white to pink to red and reddish brown, come alive in this wine cellar, showing off the wood’s natural beauty. Here it’s highlighted by LED lights, which are also a top choice for providing just the right amount of warm light in a wine room.

Solid Diamond Bins

Don’t let the rows and rows of individual wine racks bore you —  just look at these gorgeous solid diamond bins above and in the photo below. Extremely versatile and stylish, these bins add dimensional flair to the entire cellar don’t you think? Indeed, part wine protection and storage and part art and personal statement, a wine cellar can draw attention like no other, fitting the aesthetic of any home, whether traditional, classical or contemporary.

Unstained Premium Redwood Wine Racks

Opening The Doors To Wine Happiness

May 30th, 2011

Imagine cold nights and a full moon while sipping a glass of your exquisite wine right in the comforts of your own home. Such bliss! Who would have thought bottled happiness is just right behind those wine cellar doors, your gateway to wine heaven?

Our wine senses – mostly taste, smell, and sight – delight in everything that is pleasant around it. We take in everything – the sounds, the aroma, the lights, the furniture, the racks, the wine, and the décor. And the one thing that serves to welcome you and creates anticipation as to what lies within, is the wine cellar door.

Yes, we surely prefer to ogle at a marvelous wine collection displayed in beautiful wine racks, but the wine cellar door is the most significant part of your wine storage area or cellar. It is an important part of your overall wine cellar design and building process. When your guests visit your cellar, the first thing they will see is your door. What they see before they actually go inside your wine room is also a reflection of who you are and your taste. Design is thus as important as function in choosing  a door.

Choosing your wine cellar door

There are various types of wine cellar doors to choose from. Depending on your purpose, taste and personality, you can be as creative you like. The two elements that you should consider when choosing a wine cellar door are: function and design.

Function

Wine cellar doors are installed for a reason. Did you know that the right door incredibly important in maintaining the vapor barrier of the outside temperature and keeping the humidity and temperature control even for your wines inside the cellar?  Why, faulty doors can cause your wine cellar refrigeration system to work harder and allow unwanted warm air inside your wine storage cellar, defeating the rest of your cautious wine room setup and design!

The proper wine room door maintains a seal on the entryway when the door is shut, allowing the wine cellar cooling unit to mix temperature and humidity-controlled air through the whole wine room, without “fighting” with air leaking into the room from the other side of the door.

Design

Taste is of course personal and varies from person to person. You must select the exact cellar door that will enhance the décor of your space and set the mood for your entire room design. Here at Wine Cellar Innovations, we have the following designs for wine cellar doors:

Each  style has its own unique look and feel, and ultimately, it’s all up to you to pick the style that reflects a perfect union of function and design.

Back To Basics: Wine Cellar Wood Choices

May 26th, 2011

Pool time!Last week, we decided to go swimming in the nearby community pool owing to the unusually hot weather that day. We were watching a couple of kids bantering at one another in the pool, picking on another younger kid who was trying to learn how to swim. Then the swimming instructor comes up, tells the kids to line up and do some strokes on the pool. What do you know! The bullies couldn’t swim either and I hear the instructor go: “Alright kids! Time to get back to the basics.”

This also reminded me of what exactly I should be doing here at WCI: to constantly strike a chord in the wine lover’s heart whenever he steps into his wine cellar. That’s why I decided to also “go back to the basics” and revisit one of the most essential elements of crafting quality, custom wine cellars: the right wood choices.

Recalling our awesome fivesome

You know what they say about good things coming in “threes?” Well, when it comes to wood choices for your wine cellar, it comes in “fives.” We rounded up the top five some blog post ago but since we’re going back to basics, let’s try to pin down what makes these wood choices arguably the best picks for an exceptional wine cellar.

amber-blaze-mahoganyLet’s go first with Amber Blaze Mahogany because just a few Tech Tuesdays ago, we featured a truly spectacular wine cellar transformation utilizing this wood type. Amber Blaze Mahogany is a bit pricey as compared with the other four top wood choices owing to it being a hardwood specie. It’s extremely dense and heavy and that spells maximum durability. Basically, when you’re into building a wine cellar for commercial purposes AND you have the budget for it, you definitely have to go for Amber Blaze. The wood itself even when unstained has a dark reddish brown color, very rich and plush to look at. With custom stains and finishes, the wood stands to become even more luxurious and vibrant, creating a very strong, yet elegant appeal for your wine cellar.

rustic-pineNow let’s contrast Amber Blaze with our second contender, Rustic Pine. As opposed to the rich and dark color of mahogany, Rustic Pine is best distinguished by its soft, creamy color with subtle streaks and structurally sound knots. Because of its understated appearance, it lends itself very well to stains and custom finishes, particularly weather finishes as when you want to achieve an aged, vintagey look for your wine cellar. Rustic Pine is also easier on the pocketbook compared with the other choice woods since it is a grade that includes knots which give a bigger yield and lower cost than a clear grade of wood.

clear-all-heart-redwood1Speaking of “clear grade of wood,” let’s move on to one in that category—Clear All Heart Redwood. You probably heard us rave about this wood choice in one of our Tech Tuesday episodes and the high praise is not without reason. Clear All Heart Redwood has been labeled as a “perfect choice” for custom wine cellars because of its high-level resiliency against rot, mildew, and other causes of decay. Moreover, it is also resilient against shrinking, warping, and checking, making it environmentally-friendly, economic, and practically ageless. Why so? Because as the wood ages, its unstained reddish brown tones become even more pronounced, creating a truly lush look.

prime-redwood2Hailing from the same family, or specie to be more exact, we also carry Premium Redwood which, like its sister Clear All Hear Redwood, has an open-celled structure with little or no pitch resins. This allows the wood to retain stains and finishes beautifully for limitless design variations for a truly personalized look for your wine cellar. While it is a clear grade of wood minus the knots, it is still reasonably priced making it a frontrunner for custom wine cellars. Its best feature? Premium Redwood possesses a natural resistance to the cool, humid atmosphere favored for long-term wine storage. For better visual reference, you might want to check out some fabulous wine cellar transformations using this wood type.

prime-mahoganyLast but certainly not the least, we have Prime Mahogany which can be considered the more affordable version of Amber Blaze Mahogany. It is actually a very popular choice for wine cellar furniture such as cabinets, shelves, and high-end interior finishing. Prime Mahogany has a naturally opulent reddish-brown color which stands out even when unstained. But what’s absolutely attractive about this wood choice is that it’s reasonably priced despite being a high-end dense hardwood.

And making them even more “awesome!”

By now, you guys are probably very much aware that here at WCI, our goal is always to evolve, improve, and take our products to the next level all for the sake of providing our clients with nothing less than excellent quality and style for their custom wine cellars. Which is why, your top five wood choices just got even better with endless stain and finish options. With our Wood Swatch Simulator, you can see how your preferred wood type would look with custom stains and finishes which means you save yourself the hassle AND expense of experimenting on the actual product.

Moreover, we also carry a delicious selection of stain and finish options to give your wood that extra edge. Think of it as make-up! You can go for a nude look with an unstained wood like say, unstained Rustic Pine which totally works for an authentic rustic charm. You can also choose to go for strong, dusky, and polished appearance of your wine cellar with Classic Mahogany or Dark Walnut Stain. Still, there are those that would opt for something more dramatic and edgy say like Dark Weathered Finish which uses a darker topcoat for an ultra-sleek appeal or Lacquer Finish for that gleaming, timeless chic.

Wood Stain Options

Needless to say, bringing out the true beauty in your wine cellars rests on the fundamentals of wine-cellar building. In our case, we always stress that quality materials make for quality wine cellars. Learn more about wood choices, wine cellar design, and just about anything about making your wine cellar dreams come to life at WCI.

Take a Tour of a Glass Enclosed Wine Cellar

May 25th, 2011

One can never underestimate the class and glamour of a glass-enclosed wine cellar. If you still haven’t taken the tour showcased in our video here, then we suggest you do so to fully appreciate what we’re all so excited about. What you are about to see, or have seen, is a feature of our contemporary glass enclosed wine cellar combined with all the right elements for extremely unique wine storage options.

Now all of us are well-aware of the fact that glass is one of the best if not the best medium for catching and reflecting light. As you can see from our video feature, the beauty of a glass enclosed wine cellar is amplified by custom wine cellar lighting accessories. We just love how those bottles look as if they’re bathed in ethereal light!

This particular wine cellar was put together using some of WCI’s absolute best: All Heart Redwood wine racks with Double Deep vintage view racks and some of our really unique wine cellar accessories, including a cork tasting tabletop and island which you can see adorning the very center of the wine cellar. Now cork is a natural and durable material that is harvested with minimal impact on the environment, making it an excellent choice of material.

Moreover, it lends itself to a number of style options as well and as you can see, the cork tasting tabletop here is undeniably chic. On a side note, WCI offers so many unique choices for wine cellar tabletops and countertops which you can personalize to suit the mood and theme you have in mind for your wine cellar.

Notice how rich and elegant the wine racks look and how they mesh so well with the amber-colored wine bottles? The wine racks were stained and finished in Dark Walnut, a perfect choice to bring about an authentic vintage effect. And speaking of stains and finishes, you might want to check out our Stain & Finish Review and Interactive Swatch Simulator which allows you to see up-front how your wood choice would look with certain stains and finishes.
Watching the video feature, we’re almost too sure you guys didn’t miss out on the arrangement of those wine bottles in a “staircase” fashion, right? That’s actually an ingenious piece of work we craft here at WCI and are very much proud of: our water fall rack. This one’s pretty special because our clever design consultants suggested adding individual diamond bin bottles on either side, making everything appear very artistic and of course, luxurious. Here’s something to note though: with the double deep vintage view wine racks, your storage options would be limited to around 20% of the available storage space. The video feature actually points this out, too. Nevertheless, you get an absolutely attractive layout that showcases your collection at its visual peak in exchange for that and as you can see from the finished product here, it’s not a bad bargain at all!

Let’s go now to the smaller but highly significant details of this wine cellar. Our design consultants incorporated custom cabinetry complete with the crown moldings to encase the metal racks which in effect only adds to the vintage charm of the wine cellar and highlights the dark walnut stain of the racks. Needless to say, it lends an opulent aura owing to the play of glass, light, and dark wood with the intricate moldings. Of course, let’s not forget the standard archways here which also add to the wine cellar’s classic façade.

If you can gather from the video feature, the entire wine cellar holds 539 wine bottles. Notice those solid diamond bins? These are best for bulk storage resulting to increased storage capacity for a growing collection. Last but definitely not the least, let’s give props to the client for purchasing one of the best choices for a wine refrigeration system—WineZone.

Remember our blog post featuring this wine storage unit? Better refresh yourselves because WineZone is a sure winner when it comes to maintaining the proper storage conditions for a wine cellar, helping each bottle age gracefully and bringing out the best of its flavors.

On a final note, allow us to emphasize that All-Heart Redwood is one of the top wood picks for custom wine cellars, whether residential or commercial. It lends itself easily to stains and custom finishes and wine racks and furniture crafted from this radiate natural elegance and beauty.

Here at WCI, we always tune in to your heart’s desires when it comes to designing your dream wine cellar. Get in touch with our design consultants and check out more of our gorgeous wine cellar products!

Premium Redwood is taken from the outermost portion of the tree’s bark as differentiated from All-Heart Redwood which occupies the centermost part. Premium Redwood comes in an assortment of colors ranging from understated white, muted pink, to a more solid reddish-brown hue. Unstained, it is naturally attractive, as you can witness from the client’s wine rack choices but WCI also offers a bevy of stain and custom finish options to further enhance and play around with the natural beauty of the wood.

Versatile Designer Series Wine RacksHere, we can see just how versatile the wine storage options can be with the Designer Kit Series, from individual bottle racking to bulk storage with Solid Diamond Cube bins. And speaking of individual bottle storage, notice that each bottle can be cradled on two rails cut with beveled ends and rounded edges. The result? Your wine bottles are carefully and lovingly secured and wine bottle tags and labels are actually kept intact!

Take a closer look at the Solid Diamond Cube bins. The decorative face trim gives the cubes a more polished appearance, exhibiting excellent craftsmanship.

The Marvels Of Metal

May 19th, 2011

Well we’ve always been talking to you guys about our wine racks because modesty aside, WCI carries a truly excellent line of wine cellar wine racks to fit any wine cellar need. And when we talk of wine racks, it’s probably only natural that our customers would associate it with our top-notch quality wood products. But here at WCI, we always enjoy going that extra mile, taking it up a notch, and stretching it just one bit further so that something “great” can be “outstanding.” So while we have been giving you stylish and cost-effective wood wine racks for your wine cellar, we also carry an excellent line of metal commercial wine racks and residential metal wine racks, perfect for all your storage needs.

Simple, efficient, and smart!

If you own a residential wine cellar, you probably won’t appreciate the value of metal wine racks as much as when you run a commercial one but even when it’s a residential wine cellar, metal wine racks are as functional as any other. Indulge us as we show you why:

Metal Wine Basket Merchandiser. This useful little number can give you so much variety when it comes to storage options for your precious bottles. The best feature of this wine rack is that it allows for high visibility and quick retrieval of stored wines. If you take a closer look at the design, you can very well notice that it can accommodate both bulk and loose storage for your wine. In addition, it makes it way easier to select which wine bottle or bottles to retrieve which makes for a practically seamless organization.

Metal Wine Basket Merchandiser

Metal Half Height Wine Bin Merchandiser. With it’s reduced height, it can easily find its place in your wine cellar while at the same time, still give you a good number of storage options. Cases and boxes of wine can fit in the top portion of the rack quite comfortably while the baskets below can safely accommodate your individual, loose wine bottles.

Metal Half Height Wine Bin Merchandiser

Metal Bulk Wine Storage Bin. Now for those who house small to medium-sized wine cellars, whether residential or commercial, here’s something you can definitely appreciate. This wine rack has the amazing feature of being able to store large quantities of wine even in restricted spaces. An average of one case of wine per linear foot of wine shelf space can actually be accommodated by this wine rack and enclosed with “gates” which makes for really secure storage of those fragile wine bottles.

Metal Bulk Wine Storage Bin

Adjustable 5-Shelf Corner Metal Wine Rack. Of course, it goes without saying that the appearance of a wine cellar is just as essential (and hey, to some may be even more!) as the quality of the materials used to craft the same. A seamless and polished look is what most wine enthusiasts aim to achieve and corners and curves have to be managed cleverly. This variation of the metal commercial wine rack collection allows for such flexibility, especially with its adjustable wine shelves. Moreover, the open-rack structure prevents excessive dust accumulation and gives everyone a better eyeful of your wine bottles.

Adjustable 5 Shelf Corner Metal Wine Rack

Individual Bottle Cradle Wine Rack. This metal wine rack possesses more or less similar specs as the Corner Metal Wine Rack. Highly functional when it comes to bulk wine storage, this product is a must-buy particularly for large, commercial wine cellars.

Individual Bottle Metal Cradle Wine Rack

Here’s why we’re shining the spotlight on this cool product:

• The rack’s standard finish is aluminum, but custom options are also available for more style and function options.

• These custom commercial metal wine racks are actually crafted to meet food service applications because of their accessibility, safety, and space efficiency for the storage, use and protection of valuable wines.

• Furthermore, these metal wine racks were created in perfect detail including meeting sanitation requirements. The units are furnished without a shelf in the bottom position to allow the required clearance, and plastic feet are supplied to protect flooring from wear-through.

Greening Your Wine Cellar Part III: LED Lighting

May 18th, 2011

How’s your week, WCI blog fans?

We hope you enjoyed the first two parts of “Greening Your Wine Cellar”. In Part 1 we tackled eco-friendly wine cellar flooring, and in Part 2 we talked about eco-friendly wood choices!

We thought we’d end this series with the one thing that makes a whole lot of difference once your wine racks, floors and doors and other accessories are completely in place – lighting.

Wine cellar lighting should not be taken lightly (pun intended!) because it has the power to create that desired mood and atmosphere in your wine cellar. Here at WCI, we have great lighting options – LED downlights, Fluorescent Slimlites and LED Display Lighting.

Energy-efficient and Eco-friendly LED Lights

There’s no doubt about it – the eco-conscious’ choice is always LED lighting. And it shouldn’t be a surprise because LED lights are a high efficiency, long lasting light source with incredible visual impact. Why, they have successfully replaced conventional lighting technology in several commercial lighting applications with significant savings in energy costs. Inhabitat wrote about how amazing LED lights are – definitely worth a few minutes of reading time.

Did you know that LED lights provide more flexibility at a lower cost than incandescent with over seven times the life expectancy? In wine cellars, LED lighting is typically used as back-lighting in crown molding, for archways and in high reveal display racking. We love how it can create some very dramatic  lighting effects, which adds to the beauty of a fantastic wine room.

Warm LED lights give you ample light in order to read your wine labels, and does a great job of highlighting the gorgeous areas of your wine collection.  Check out Wine Cellar Innovations’ LED lighting specifications here, and just take a look at these fabulous wine cellar installs that feature LED lights from our Technical Tuesdays:

Rooting For Innovation And Sustainability

May 16th, 2011

We take sustainability seriously.

We value the concept very much, especially if it goes hand in hand with innovation.  So when we read about Disney declaring its support for third-party forest certification and embracing all credible certification programs, including SFI (Sustainable Forestry Initiative), we couldn’t help but smile because one, we love Disney, and two, we too, are proud of the steps our company has taken to reduce our carbon footprint.

In Disney’s 2010 Corporate Citizenship Report, the company says:

Disney Corporate Citizenship Report

Nature conservation is a top Disney priority. To support our commitment to nature conservation, an initial focus of our product footprint strategy is reducing raw materials that have a direct impact on forests and ecosystems. We chose to begin with paper-based products and packaging. In the U.S. alone, our Disney Publishing business produces 50 million books and 30 million magazines annually. We also directly source and distribute ESPN Magazine and Hyperion books, as well as various paper products such as stationery and autograph books in our Disney Stores and theme parks.”

We applaud Disney for setting targets for sustainable paper use, and taking all necessary steps to protect the environment. You can read more about their green efforts in this article.

Wince Cellar Innovations’ SFI Certified Redwood

Here at Wine Cellar Innovations, caring about our carbon footprint means caring about our forests. Since building wine racks and wine cellars involves using a lot of wood, we’ve made sure that we help protect the forests that our wood comes from.

All of our Redwood (Premium Redwood and Clear All Heart Redwood) is produced under the guidelines of the Sustainable Forestry Initiative. SFI is one of the two national “Green” Forestry management organizations, and is a fully independent, charitable organization dedicated to promoting sustainable forest management. SFI Certification provides consumers with assurance and confidence that the Redwood products they purchase from WCI have been harvested in an environmentally sound manner. This certification standard is based on principles that promote sustainable forest management, including measures to protect water quality, biodiversity, wildlife habitat, species at risk, and Forests with Exceptional Conservation Value.

As you may already know, the magnificent Redwood has always been a favorite here in WCI. How about we let these Redwood wine cellar installations speak for themselves?

Residential All Heart Redwood

Such a durable, beautiful wood deserves praise and protection, and when you choose to build a wine cellar that uses Redwood, we want you to feel confident that you’re working with a company that values our forests, and that you’re working with a green building material.

Speaking of green building materials, incidentally, we also read about SFI applauding the USDA announcement promoting wood in green building. SFI and a diverse coalition of organizations had called on US Department of Agriculture (USDA) to adopt a more inclusive approach to green building, including recognizing multiple green building rating systems and encouraging the use of wood products from responsibly managed forests.

How’s that for great news?

We may be in the business of wine storage, but we do care about the environmental impact of our actions. While we continue to bring you innovative ideas and designs in wine storage, we will always uphold the values of sustainability in our company. That’s a promise.

Greening Your Wine Cellar Part II: Eco-friendly Wood Choices

May 12th, 2011

Wine Cellar Innovations’ eco-friendly options for your wine cellar!

So we talked about Wine Cellar Innovations’ green flooring options for your wine room last time. In case you missed it, do check out the post and tell us what you think! Isn’t it amazing to know you’ve got several options in making your wine cellar environmentally-friendly?

And speaking of options, here’s more: eco-friendly wood choices!

When it comes to wine racks and wine cellars, choosing the kind of wood to use is perhaps the most important decision you will make. So let’s take a look at your “green” wood options, shall we?

Eco-friendly Wood Choices: Premium Redwood & Clear All-Heart Redwood

If you’ve seen our photo gallery, you know how gorgeous wood wine racks look. They’re absolutely breathtaking! Here at WCI, because we love our forests, we give you the best eco-friendly choice for wine racks – Redwood. We wrote about the mighty Redwood and saving trees a few months back; we suggest you take quick look at the amazing photo of the cross section of a Redwood in that blog post.

Premium Redwood

Why is our Premium Redwood an environmentally sound choice? Well, ALL our Redwood is produced under the guidelines of SFI, Sustainable Forestry Initiative. With this SFI Certification, you are assured that the Redwood you purchase from us have been harvested in an environmentally sound manner. Because we purchase and process a vast amount of Redwood, you enjoy great savings too!

Redwood has been a favorite material for wine cellars over the years because it is such an amazing wood. It is naturally resistant to the cool, humid atmosphere desired for long-term wine storage, and there’s no other wood that ages so beautifully as the Redwood. Premium Redwood is also less expensive than Clear All Heart Redwood. We love the wood’s various colors — white to pink to dark purple swirled and streaked together. It’s beautiful even without a finish and contains natural wood preservatives! Just have a look at this wine cellar that shows off the beauty of Premium Redwood in a dark walnut stain, and this one that shows Premium Redwood unstained. Durable and definitely a sight to behold, aren’t you glad that such beautiful wood species is a pro-Earth choice?

Clear All Heart Redwood

Before we proceed, don’t get confused – both Premium Redwood and All-Heart Redwood do not come from separate trees. These woods come from the same log; it’s just a question of which part of the tree they came from.

Clear All-Heart Redwood comes from the center of the Redwood tree, while Premium Redwood comes from the outside of the log. All Heart is characterized by a deep, rich beautiful reddish brown color and a remarkable grain. Just take a look at this recent installation of an All Heart Redwood wine cellar. Also noteworthy is its grain patterns, which are more pronounced in the dark stained samples than in the natural unfinished ones.

Like the Premium, even without a finish, All Heart has natural beauty. It also absorbs and retains all types of finishes tremendously well. Natural, unstained Clear All Heart Redwood takes on increasing darker depth of beautiful color as it ages too – just check out this unstained All Heart photo.

If you’d like to learn more about Redwoods, contact us. Still, if you can’t get enough about the Redwood, in this video, we tell you why we really love these two types of wood. Needless to say, by choosing Redwoods, you’re making the right choice on what’s best for your beloved wines – and the environment.

Let’s talk lighting next week. In the meantime, contact us today to learn more about wood options for your wine cellar.

Worth Its Weight In “Gold”

May 11th, 2011

You’ve been hearing us rave about our recent additions to our custom wine cellar designs but we have still so much more to bring you this month! Our Platinum Series was definitely a smash hit because wine storage options only got better with the custom wine racks coming from that collection. But of course, we also took into consideration the “affordability” factor which is why we’re giving props to another wonderful addition to our custom wine cellar family—our Gold Series Custom Wine Racks.

Balancing aesthetics with the pocketbook

If you guys haven’t had the time yet to check out our Gold Series Custom Wine Racks, then it’s about time you should, especially if you’re working on a moderate to tight budget for your custom wine cellar. Our Gold Series is aptly named because it’s certainly a winner when it comes to bringing to life excellent wine cellar transformations at very reasonable costs.

Like our Platinum Series, this collection also provides full depth racking and a broad range of wine storage options. Take for example our Individual Bottle Storage which comes in these generous options:

Split, Wine, Magnum & Champagne Individual Bottle Storage
Larger Format Bottles
Single Deep & Double Deep Storage
Earthquake Resistant Wine Racks

In addition to versatility, quality is never sacrificed as with all our products here at WCI. The wine racks from our Gold Series are crafted from only the choicest wood types such as Premium Redwood which, you should note, is less expensive that Clear All-Heart Redwood which we utilize for our Platinum Series. But fret not! Premium Redwood is in no way less in terms of quality and durability. In fact, Premium Redwood rounds up our top 5 wood choices for wine cellars because of incredible performance characteristics, including resistance to shrinking, warping, and checking.

Now let’s get back on track with the fantastic deal you can get out of our Gold Series. Where storage options are concerned, this is one collection that is second to none, especially when it comes to bulk storage:

And just getting better every step of the way!

Now if you think that’s all this collection has to offer, then think again. Or better yet, pop on over to our website so you’ll know exactly what we’re talking about because our Gold Series is not just about functionality. When it comes to giving your wine cellars a truly unique look at cost-effective rates, we could not ask for anything better than this series. For starters, our Corner Wine Racks and Custom Wine Displays can certainly give your wine cellar a seamless and totally polished look, but we also have some choice picks that can pack an extra visual punch such as our Circular Wine Display with Tabletop. No doubt, it’ll be the center of attention in your wine cellar in more ways than one!

Circular Wine Display with Tabletop

And speaking of tabletops, you’d be more than delighted to know that the Gold Series comes with matching tabletops and tasting tables for your wine cellar racks. Plus, these can be personalized to meet your style preference depending on the surface materials that you would be using including Corian, Cork, Vintage Wine Barrel, Hand-painted Tiles, Mosaic Glass, and an assortment of wood types. Now how’s that for variety!

Going to it one better still, the Gold Series also carries custom moldings and trim and decorative accents to turn your wine cellar into something really extraordinary. Here are some of our personal picks:

Quarter Round Display Shelf
Archway & Tabletop
Wine Glass Rack & Tabletop

So if you’re thinking just how much all of these would be worth to achieve your dream wine cellar, the answer is fairly obvious: the WCI Gold Series Custom Wine Racks is worth its weight in gold…and probably even more!

Technical Tuesday – Episode #35 – Unique Archway Design

May 10th, 2011

When it comes to custom wine cellars, sensible planning and implementation can go a long way in ensuring that your precious wines age gracefully.  After all, you always look forward to savoring them in their best form.

Here at Wine Cellar Innovations, we love being a part of the process of planning and implementation – and enjoy writing about residential wine cellar installs! (isn’t it obvious? ) We love it even more when it involves huge, classy wine rooms built from our top of the line Platinum Series, which shows off All-Heart Redwood wine racks. This is exactly what we have for you in today’s Tech Tuesday.

But before you proceed to admiring today’s featured wine cellar, make sure you have read last week’s commercial wine cellar install – Global Liquors. It featured All-Heart Redwood wine racks too, enclosed in glass! If you’ve enjoyed all our Redwood installs, well here’s another one to add to your favorites:

What: Residential Wine Cellar
Project #: 206636
Wood: All-Heart Redwood (Platinum Series)
Where: Deerfield Beach, FL
Maximum Capacity: 910 bottles

It most certainly makes perfect sense to invest sensibly in a good wine cellar and our client opted for nothing less than the best. All-Heart Redwood is an excellent choice for a wine room, and with little touches of artistry here and there, one can expect a wine cellar that can wow the senses.

This wine room’s strong elements include fabulous individual display racks, a standard archway illuminated by eco-friendly LED lighting, pretty diamond bins – all perfect for Small/Medium Champagne and/or Split Individual Bottles as well as Magnum and/or large Champagne bottles.

Notice the unique design above the archway? Two rectangular niches for displaying two wine bottles!  We love the multi-colored stone tile ceiling and the main lighting enclosed in a one-0f-a-kind circular case — aren’t they pretty? It’s just wonderful how design and functionality come together to create a great home for a precious wine collection.

Also worth noting is the lovely, smooth finish of All-Heart Redwood racks, and the pretty cigar humidor that’s incorporated in corner section of the racks below. In case you didn’t know, yes, we do sell cigar humidors here at WCI. Our humidor cabinets, which include display shelves and a clear glass door, are perfect for storing your prized  cigar collection. You can have them customized to fit your wine cellar!

As you can see, this wine cellar shows off the natural beauty of unstained All-Heart Redwood. One of the many admirable characteristics of All Heart is its varying grains, patterns and colors, which range from pink to red to dark brown with reddish overlay.

If you are a lover of fine wine, you’ve probably always wanted to have your own wine cellar with bottles of your favorites aging to perfection. Well, this wine cellar is just one of the many installations that prove that you can be as creative as you can in building a wine cellar. From awesome flooring to breathtaking wine racks to pretty ceilings and other accessories, your wine room may just turn out to be the envy of many wine enthusiasts!

We’re pretty sure our client is having a blast stocking his wine cellar, and enjoying every minute spent in this room. Winner of the 2011 Dream Wine Cellar Giveaway Announced

May 9th, 2011

John & Janet HarrisonThis is an exciting day for Josh & Janet Harrison, the winners in our 2011 Dream Wine Cellar Giveaway!  When we held our three month long contest from January 2011 to March 2011 to give away $10,000 in a free custom wine cellar, we never realized we would see so many unique and fun ideas! It was an absolute joy to see all you wine lovers out there and when we saw the winning entry consisted of some amazing racks? Well, we can’t wait to show them off!

The Harrisons submitted room dimensions, and relevant information about their wine cellar project back in March, as a contest entry. They then worked closely with Wine Cellar Design Consultant, Erik Kuehne, to create a beautiful wine cellar floor plan and layout of  the desired wine cellar for their residential home in Georgia. Randomly selected, the quote was picked as a winner and they were notified shortly after.

The couple’s winning wine cellar design consists of our Platinum Series custom wine racks in Black Walnut wood, a Poplar wine cellar door with sidelights, as well as various wine display and storage options including individual wine bottle storage, high reveal displays, wood case storage, and solid vertical displays.  The wine cellar will hold up to 1,000 wine bottles. The couple is also investing in a WineZone Air Handler ducted wine refrigeration  unity to ensure their wine collection stays at the proper temperature.

A custom wine cellar is a wonderful investment for a home or business. It will not only protect valuable wines for years; it will also increase the value of the property.

We can’t wait to get started on their house! Right now we are wrapping up some final stages of the design but here is what the insides look like…

The New Wine Cellar Is Getting Ready!

Let There Be LED Lights!

May 9th, 2011

Lighting for wine cellars never looked this good!

Ah, warm LED lights.

Who would have ever thought that these humble pieces could discreetly transform your wine cellar into a thing of beauty? Not that a wine cellar itself isn’t already a sight to behold, but illuminating the right areas with wine cellar lighting can dramatically create a desired mood and elicit warm feelings.

There’s really nothing like a picture-perfect, well-illuminated wine cellar to light up and brighten our day. We have written about wine cellar lighting a couple of times here in Wine Cellar Innovations, and maybe you have read about it too.

In Lighting Up Your Wine Cellar, we talked about the reasons why you should switch to LED lights, and in More Than Just A Bright Idea, we show you some lighting ideas for your wine room.

Proper lighting is certainly a part of wine cellar building that should not be taken lightly, and when it comes to lighting options for your cellar, LED lights are king.

Energy-saving and eco-friendly LED lights not only beautifully accent your wines and certain sections of a wine cellar. These amazing light bulbs are less expensive than many other wine cellar lighting alternatives, last longer than incandescent bulbs, and are easier to handle. Why, these lights beat incandescent bulbs with over seven times the life expectancy! Here are WCI, some of the features of our LED lights include:

  • Certified with the RoHs directive and Pb (lead) free
  • Environmentally friendly
  • Very low heat emissions
  • Lower voltage with no UV generation
  • Resistant to vibration and humidity

LED lighting is typically used as back-lighting in crown molding, for archways and in high reveal display racking. Check out the LED lighting in this grand Premium Redwood wine cellar and this small wine closet, where the lights highlight the mural as well as the racks, shelves, and beams. Notice how the lights look dim/warm and not bright? That’s LED lighting for you—not bright white, just a nice, warm light that’s pleasing to the eye, and not harmful to your wines.

It’s also worth mentioning that rather than burning out abruptly like incandescent lighting, LED wine cellar lighting dims gradually. Because LED lights generate very low heat and has a very low voltage, they are perfect for wine cellars! Whether they’re hidden or in plain view, we love the warmth and character they bring to the room.

Soon, these LED lights will be the main source of illumination not just in wine cellars but in all homes, businesses, vehicles…everywhere. At least, that’s what this great article about LED lights in Planet Green says.

Learn more about adding LED lights to your wine cellar today.  Our design consultants would be happy to talk to you.

Wine Cellar Magic With WineMaker

May 4th, 2011

Magic!Do you believe in magic? Well, not the Walt Disney kind of bibbity boppity boo but the kind that makes you go “wow” when you see something transform from ordinary to amazing. It’s the kind of fairy tail you experience when you get a totally hot makeover from a professional artist, put on a designer dress, killer heels and turn heads when you enter a room. Remember, even Cinderella knew the importance of a good dress and more so with the shoes (come on, those glass slippers stole the Prince’s heart!), so even when it’s not exactly done with a fairy godmother, there are still transformations that are at best, magical.

Why WineMaker?

So let’s talk about wine cellars because at WCI, if there’s one kind of magic we CAN do, it’s making wine cellar dreams come true. If you’ve scoured through our Photo Galleries, you can easily see that we can bring about transformations that would please even the most discriminating wine enthusiast and we do this by merging quality and style to bring about a truly outstanding result. And if you’ve taken the time to follow our blogs, we’ve already talked about one of our prized products, our solid collection of wine racks.

Now we’ve talked about the ever versatile Vintner, the classy Designer, and the vintagey Rustic Pine, but we can still go to it one better! If you still haven’t heard of our WineMaker Series or have somehow forgotten about it, it’s high-time you learned more about it. Why so? Because when you wish to get maximum storage options, a cost-effective package, and a truly impressive wine cellar transformation, the WineMaker Series can bring it all to your doorstep.

The WineMaker Series is actually a spinoff of the very popular Vintner Series, but at an attractively affordable package. Our wine racks are as flexible as Vintner and specifically designed to be stacked one on top of another to create a seamless, sleek for your wine cellar. In terms of space-efficiency and storage options, WineMaker covers all the bases with additional plus points for style. The racks are now available in Premium Redwood and Rustic Pine, and can be dressed up and down with the right play of stain options and custom finishes. Thus, you can choose to turn your wine cellar into a luxurious haven for the most discerning of wine connoisseurs or go for contemporary chic with the help of WineMaker Series Moldings.

WineMaker Moldings

More than just a Cinderella story

Well, you just can’t forget how Cinderella managed to secure a “happily ever after” after she donned on that fabulous white gown and glass slippers but your wine cellar will get an even happier ending when you dress it up with our WineMaker Series. Knowing how to mix, match, and stack our individual bottle racks, diamond and rectangular bins for bulk storage, various wine displays, tasteful quarter round shelves, and super stylish waterfall falling racks will give you a transformation that can last a lifetime.

WineMaker Base PlatformsAnd here’s something noteworthy: with the WineMaker Series Base Platforms, your wine racks are fully supported and even allowing you to maximize rack heights in your wine cellar. This makes for practically limitless ceiling height configurations, no matter how moderate or large the size of your wine cellar may be.

Just like the posh Vintner Series, WineMaker wine racks can go from floor to ceiling in any height over 6 feet.  Our racks come in one foot increments ingeniously achieved by combining 3-feet and 4-feet sections. Together with the base platform and crown molding options,  you pull together fresh and distinctive look for wine cellar while at the same time piling in potential savings by using kits rather than constructing a custom wine cellar from scratch. In addition, with the assorted stain options and custom finishes we provide here at WCI (you can refer to our Interactive Swatch Viewer and Stain & Finish Review), your base platforms can be in total design harmony with your entire wine cellar furniture.

So, I’m going to ask you differently now: do you believe in wine cellar magic? The kind that will make guests go “wow” when they step into a truly gorgeous wine cellar? Because if you still don’t, then let us WCI weave magic for you!

Technical Tuesday Episode #34 – Global Liquors

May 3rd, 2011

We always look forward to Technical Tuesdays and don’t you do, too? It’s always an exciting occasion for us to reveal the next grand wine cellar transformation which incidentally, gets us even more revved up to continuously improve our products and services. To open the warm, happy season of May, we bring you this beautiful creation from Global Liquors:

Commercial Wine Cellar

What: Commercial Wine Cellar
Project #: 207530
Wood: All-Heart Redwood
Maximum capacity:  3537
Where: MIAMI, FL

Again, we pay homage to the unrivaled elegance of the Platinum Series which is dramatically showcased in this picture. The client had already opted for a glass-enclosed design and if you can browse through this blog post of ours, we DID emphasize just how glass plays up the style factor of any type of wine cellar.

All-heart Redwood

Let’s have a closer look, shall we? Here you can clearly see why All-Heart Redwood really is the perfect match for the Platinum Series.  Since this series boasts of the most extensive wine storage options in full depth style, All-Heart Redwood with is natural characteristics for durability, resistance to rot, mildew, and insects, and its variety of grain patterns is certainly the best match for it. Don’t you just love how everything looks so neat and practically seamless even with the interspersing of the single and double deep individual bottle wine racks, vertical wine displays, and rectangular bin bottles?

And lest you guys fail to notice, Global Liquors made a fine purchase choice with the WineZone Wall Mount Ductless Split which as you can see, fits very cozily above the vertical rack displays. We featured WineZone in one of our blogs as well to give customers a better insight on the outstanding features of this wine refrigeration system and why it’s actually the ideal pick for any wine cellar. For the record, WineZone provides sound blankets for compressors at additional cost for better noise control. Also, Coated Evaporator Coals are available for protection against constant exposure to corrosive environments (think Miami, beaches, and SALTWATER!).

WineZone Wallmount Ductless Split

Now let’s talk about the lighting features of this wine cellar. Conforming to perhaps one of the most foolproof lighting solutions for any custom wine cellar, Global Liquors had LED Display Lighting installed to highlight the creamy color of the wood racks, resulting in a warm, golden effect. A fine choice, indeed!

Led Display LightingIn addition to the standard wine racks, they also purchased some of our Commercial specific displays for the main part of their store. With our Wall Display, Island Accessory Merchandiser, Island Display, and Six Shelf Vertical Display (shown below) you can get extremely versatile with your racking.

Six Shelf Vertical DisplayHere’s something we really appreciate, function and design-wise: the black vinyl base for the base platforms of the wine racks. It makes for a resilient base, definitely durable, and strikes a nice contrast with the paler stained All-Heart Redwood.

Black Vinyl Base

So once again, we bring you a custom wine cellar in Miami, FL that will certainly inspire you to work on your wine cellar dreams and make those come true! Tech Tuesdays at WCI are always filled with visual treats to enliven the wine connoisseur in you so don’t forget to catch us next week for more eye-catching wine cellar features.

Greening Your Wine Cellar: Part 1

May 2nd, 2011

Wine Cellar Innovations’ eco-friendly options for your wine cellar!

You love your wines, and want the best for your wine cellar. But you love the Earth too. So how do you make your wine cellar environmentally-friendly?

Here at WCI, we’ve got some eco-friendly options for your wine room—from the type of wood to use, to the flooring and the lights! We’ve got eco-friendly cork and wine barrel floors, energy-efficient LED lights and SFI-Certified Redwood for your wine cellar, to name a few.

Let’s talk about flooring today, shall we?

Flooring: Eco-friendly Cork & Reclaimed Wine Barrels

Cork Floors

Cork FloorThere are lots of reasons to consider cork for your wine cellar. Cork floors are a beautiful, environmentally sound choice for your wine room as they are are easy to clean, add insulation value to the floor, are naturally moisture-resistant. All-natural and a rapidly renewable resource, they have also been proven to be anti-microbial and insect resistant.

Another great feature of cork floors is that they are very durable and resilient. If, say, an object is dropped onto the cork floor, the latter will absorb the impact and return to its original state. However for really heavy objects such as a large piece of furniture or appliance, it is best to place something underneath the pressure points as a cork floor may not recover from the extended weight.

Oh, and did we mention that aside from cork floors, we have cork tabletops too? Check out what makes them a fab choice by reading the cork table top features.

Indeed, the cork floor will always have a place in an environmentally sensitive home. You can read more about why cork is an eco-friendly material here and here.

Wine Barrel Floors

WineBarrel FlooringHow would you like to line your floors with reclaimed wine barrels? Recycled wine barrel flooring is totally eco-friendly, and can give such character to a wine cellar.

Our vintage wine barrel flooring here at WCI (which is on sale until May 25th!) has are 2 “Cooperage” stamps per every 3 feet.  Cooperage refers to the outside portion of a wine barrelhead, and it has the distinct markings of each barrel.

Mind you, each reclaimed wood component is carefully inspected for quality, color, and structural integrity. Each piece being truly unique because no two planks from a barrel are alike, they really are a perfect way to upgrade your wine cellar, giving it an old world charm! Shouldn’t you be proud to be able to give old wine barrels a second life?

Next time, we’ll talk about sustainable wood for your wine cellar. In the meantime, talk to one of our Design Consultants about greening your wine cellar today!
